When you register for MacTypingTutor you will get a floppy disk with the latest version of the program. For the basic registration fee, you also get the largest data banks available at this time. The largest data banks include: 50,000 word spelling-checker dictionary, 125 paragraphs, and all possible letter combinations on the keyboard. Permanent score sheets are also provided.
Free Tools. You will also get a tool to alter the number of spaces used between sentences in the paragraph module.
Another version of MacTypingTutor let's you work in Dvorak, only, within all modules, using a facsimile, for reference, of the Dvorak keyboard that appears on screen. To register for this instead of the regular version write anywhere on the registration form "Dvorak version of MacTypingTutor not regular version."
MacTypingTutor comes with a "help" button on the main screen that explains how to use the program (e.g., "getting started," "using score sheets," "setting options" and so on). MacTypingTutor also comes with a nicely written text-file manual. The following summarizes the program's activities.
LetterClinic: trains your hands to feel for the "home" position and then jump to other keys. There are eleven different modes, ranging from super-easy to medium to very hard (as well as numbers and symbols), see "Options" menu.
FingerClinic: teaches which finger to use for typing each key on the keyboard; it works in automatic or manual.
WordDrill: prompts words, remembers errors, can prompt errors.
GraphDrill: prompts you to type paragraphs kept in GraphBank. Use menu commands to customize prompts.
Free Typing: Scores are kept for session . Tip: Press return-key twice to activate score-sheet menu-command. Then you don't have type a paragraph to see the score sheet. Spell checking now available in FreeTyping.
You can also customize how the program handles the typing prompts as well your typing. To do this use the commands in the Options menu.
Modules 2 through 5 show information on how well you're doing with the Feedback Window. The box that shows "timeOn" displays total time you've been with the program (on the right of the ' | ' marker) and shows total times you've been in particular modules (on the left of the ' | ' marker). Module 1 (FreeTyping) does not get this information because it uses a separate timer in its score sheet.
Closing note: MacTypingTutor is an actively-supported shareware program made available, for a reduced registration fee, by an educator. Within reason, the programmer will answer questions, through e-mail, that you may have about using MacTypingTutor. :-)
